Tell companies that receive a 100 score on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index to stop funding anti-LGBT elected leaders

About Zero For Zeros

Companies that are allies to LGBT employees and customers should not give money to anti-LGBT elected officials. These politicians not only oppose LGBT equality, but lead the fight against it. These elected officials are so far out of sync with internal company policies and public pro-LGBT brands, it makes no sense.

The scope of the campaign is narrow

  • Hundreds of companies earn a perfect 100 score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. Of those receiving a 100 score in 2018 and 2019, Zero for Zeros found that 49 have contributed to the most anti-LGBT elected officials.
  • 10 Members of the House and 19 Senators were identified as the worst-of-the-worst on LGBT issues, all of these members also received zeros for two consecutive years on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard.
  • Elected officials who have received money from pro-LGBT companies have:
    • Defended companies discriminating against LGBT customers by supporting the Masterpiece Cakeshop Supreme Court Case.
    • Voted for an amendment to BAN health care for trans military servicemembers. US H369 Amend. 183 (Hartzler Amendment).
    • Cosponsored ANTI-LGBT legislation to:
      • Define the terms “spouse” and “marriage” as used in federal laws to always follow the definition used in the particular state where the law is applied. (H.R. 3829 State Marriage Defense Act 2014)
      • Prohibit the federal government from taking discriminatory action against a person on the basis that such person believes or acts in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction that: (1) marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, or (2) sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage. (H.R. 2802 First Amendment Defense Act 2015; S. 2525 First Amendment Defense Act)
      • Prohibit the words “sex” and “gender” in federal civil rights laws from being interpreted to include gender identity and would require the words “man” and “woman” in federal civil rights law to refer exclusively to a person’s “genetic sex.” (H.R. 2796 Civil Rights Uniformity Act 2017)
      • Define marriage in the United States as consisting only of the union of a man and a woman. H.J. Res. 32 Marriage Protection Amendment 2015)

LGBT employees, customers, and allies deserve to know who stands 100% with equality. These companies should cut off all political contributions to any candidate who scores a zero on the HRC scorecard.

The Worst of the Worst

LGBT employees, customers, and allies deserve to know who stands 100% with equality. Allied companies should cut off all political contributions to any elected official who scores a zero on the HRC Congressional Scorecard and lead the charge against equality.

These elected officials have proven to be the worst of the worst. They earned a ZERO rating from the Human Rights Campaign two years in a row, have not supported anything pro-LGBT, and have worked and spoken out against equality at every opportunity.
