Core Gala at The Wiltern

It was a star-studded night at The WIltern Theater Wednesday January 15th for CORE. Started as a Haitian relief organization in 2010, Sean Penn’s charity has evolved into the Community Organized Relief Effort. Helping thousands of people across the globe through building stronger communities with disaster preparedness, neighborhood planning, women’s entrepreneurship and community health. The evening began with tray passed hors d’oeuvres in the lobby of the historic Wiltern Theater. Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Conan O’Brien, Rev. jessie Jackson, Patricia Arquette, Ed Ruscha, Naomi Campbell, Balthazar Getty were among the crowd viewing the art that was donated for auction. As the guests were invited to dinner the doors opened to a space transformed from a concert venue into a beautiful dining room peppered with stoneware muted earth tones and beautiful florals. The first course from Schaffer’s catering teamwas a vegan salad of roasted acorn squash, hempseed butter, mizuna greens, spiced pepitas and a habanero maple vinaigrette. Entrees were offered as a choice of Braised beef short rib, roasted broccolini and pommes purée, a roasted seabass with barley risotto or a vegan thai curry eggplant timbale. Dessert was our perfect Piney Tart, an artful composition of pineapple, pine nuts and candied pine leaves. Beck, Jenny Lewis and Dwight Yokam were among the musical guests curated by Linda Perry. A reported $5 million was raised for the deserving organization and the entire event was expertly produced by Josh Woods Production . An excellent time was had by all in the name of a tremendous organization. What a way to spend a Wednesday night in January!
